Bad Operator is not only an album, it's an investigation. Gunsling Birds' sophomore release explores the common ground between indie, post-rock, jazz, electronic, and prog. This is not an effortless process, but nothing so stylish has ever been. Songwriter Scott Hallam stretches his creative muscles--and his vocal chords--with songs that ask the listener to both sing along loudly and to listen in silence. Bad Operator is a journey to a film noir past and a dystopic future, and when the eponymous final track reaches its frenetic climax, there is little doubt that Gunsling Birds have found what they were looking for: a unique, genre-defying sound.
